Pictures from Perú II

These pictures are from our first concert of Spanish and Colonial music in the Auditorio del Museo Nacional de Arqueología Antropología e Historia del Perú (9 May 2010). The concert was attended by the Korean Ambassador in Perú, Han, Byung-Kil, who graciously gave the welcome speech. Also in attendance were the Argentinian Ambassador, the French Ambassador, and the Indonesian Ambassador, as well as Maestro Armando Sánchez Málaga, Director of Centro de Estudios, Investigación y Difusión de la Música Latinoamericana de la Pontificio Universidad Católica del Perú. AVLA HARMONIÆ, Sang Joon Park (traverso and artistic director), Martha McGaughey (viola da gamba), Arthur Haas (Harpsichord), is joined by guest artist Alejandra Lopera-Quintanilla, a brilliant recorder soloist and director of the Ensamble Barroco de Arequipa.

Laura Thompson, Sang Joon Park, baroque flutes, and Michael Eisenberg, harpsichord, perform flute music by J.S. Bach's sons Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel, and their childhood friend Carl Friedrich Abel.

Since their debut at the Boston Early Music Festival in 2002, Bacchanalia Baroque has been giving spirited performances of baroque and early classical music on period instruments. They received their first public grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in 2007, for the performance of rare and reconstructed early American music. Bacchanalia has been heard in New York at The Saint Andrew Music Society at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, Christ Chapel Chamber Series at Riverside Church, Midtown Concerts, Saint Peter's Lutheran Church Classical Concert Series, Our Saviour's Atonement MOSA Series, Sundays on the Island, and Trinity Church's Music for the Spirit in New York City.

-I am very excited yet saddened to announce that I will be conducting Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro at the beloved Amato Opera on Saturday, May 30th. It's a privilege to have been assigned to this date because on the very next day, Sunday, May 31st, Anthony Amato himself - now 89 years old - will conduct for the very last time at the company he led for the last 61 years and retire from the music business. I feel extremely fortunate to have been playing for Tony Amato in his orchestra as a flutist for the past 15 years. The big irony is that my father, tenor In Soo Park, now Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University in Korea, sang Rodolfo (La Boheme) and Ernesto (Don Pasquale) for Tony in the early 1980s.
